Vistas Ardeshir Balsara, widely recognized as V. Balsara in the music world, was a true virtuoso in instrumental orchestration. His illustrious career included composing music for a total of 32 Bengali films and 12 Hindi films, a testament to his musical brilliance. With over 200 albums to his name, he displayed remarkable versatility, mastering various musical instruments, including the piano, univox, and melodica.

V. Balsara was born on June 22, 1922, in Bombay, into a Parsi Zoroastrian family with Gujarati roots. His early affinity for Western music laid the foundation for his remarkable journey in the music industry.

His foray into the world of film music commenced when he worked as an assistant to music director Ustad Mustaq Hussain in the Hindi film "Baadal" in 1942. Subsequently, he assisted other notable music directors such as Master Ghulam Haider and Khemchand Prakash. His independent music directorial debut came with the film "Circus Girl" in 1943, where he collaborated with fellow music director Vasant Kumar Naidu. In total, he served as the music director for around a dozen Hindi films, most of which were released in the 1940s and early 1950s.

From the lesser-known "Circus Girl" in 1943 to films like "O Panchi," "Rangmahal," "Madmast," "Talash," "Char Dost," "Vidyapati," and "Pyar" in Hindi, and "Madhu Shraboni," "Joy Baba Baidyanath," "Maa," "Chalachal," "Panchatapa," "Subho Bibaha," "Manik," "Kanchan Kanya," "Panna," and "Pathey Holo Dekha" in Bengali, V. Balsara amassed an impressive and diverse repertoire as a music director.

In addition to his work in films, V. Balsara gained recognition for his contributions as an instrumentalist and symphony orchestra music composer. His legacy continues to be celebrated in the world of music, with his compositions and instrumental prowess leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
