Surya Kumar Neupane, professionally known as Uttam Neupane, is a distinguished Nepali sound mixer celebrated for his outstanding contributions in cinema. He garnered recognition for his exceptional sound mixing in the feature film "Mero Euta Saathi Chha," earning the prestigious 5th National Film Award of Nepal for Best Sound Mixing. His remarkable expertise in sound engineering was also displayed in "Bulbul" and "Talakjung vs Tulke," both of which were Nepal's official entries for the 92nd and 88th Academy Awards, respectively.
Neupane's work extends beyond feature films. He contributed to the short film "Dadyaa," which received a nomination for the Short Film Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and secured a Special Jury Award. Additionally, his collaboration with CNN journalist Benjamin Best on the documentary "Dirty Games" resulted in accolades such as the Feature Documentary Award of Recognition at the Hollywood International Independent Documentary Awards and Best Documentary at the Snowdance Independent Film Festival, New York Festivals.
His partnership with director Nischal Basnet on films like "Talakjung vs Tulke," "Loot," and "Loot 2" showcases his versatility and skill in sound mixing. Neupane's work on "Bijuli Machine," the first Nepali science fiction movie directed by Navin Awal, further demonstrated his prowess. The film was an opening selection at the Tasveer South Asian Film Festival, Seattle, where it earned the title of Best Narrative Film. Its recognition extended to international screenings at the Singapore South Asian International Film Festival and the Chicago South Asian Film Festival.
