Poornima Shrestha, originally named Sushma Shrestha, is an Indian playback singer known for her significant contribution to Bollywood during the 1990s. Her career began as a child artist, but she faced struggles as an adult singer in the mid-80s. Her marriage temporarily paused her singing career, and during this time, she turned her attention to jingles, where her professionalism and talent secured her steady work.

In the 1990s, she underwent a name change and became known as Poornima. Her song "Barsaat Mein Jab Aayega Saawan Ka Maheena" from the movie "Maa" became a hit and marked a turning point in her career. She collaborated with David Dhawan for several successful films, including "Bol Radha Bol," where "Tu Tu Tu Tu Tara" became a popular anthem. She continued to work with Dhawan in films like "Coolie No. 1," "Judwaa," "Hero No. 1," and "Biwi No.1."

Poornima's versatile voice allowed her to work with various music directors in Bollywood, including Chitragupt, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri, Rajesh Roshan, and many others. She sang hit songs like "Channe Ke Khet Main" from "Anjaam," "Batti Na Bujha" from "Gopi Kishan," "Shaam Hain Dhuan Dhuan" from "Diljale," and "Mr Lova Lova" from "Ishq," among others.

She lent her voice to popular actresses in Bollywood, such as Sridevi, Jaya Prada, Juhi Chawla, Madhuri Dixit, and many more. Poornima was one of the top-selling artists of the 1990s, and alongside Alka Yagnik and Kavita Krishnamurthy, she was one of the most prolific female playback singers during that era.

While she is no longer active in film playback singing, Poornima continues to perform live in India and various parts of the world. She has also sung in multiple languages, including Bengali, Nepali, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Gujarati, and others, across various genres like children's songs, bhavgeet, bhajan, ghazal, chutney, and Indipop. Her music has left a lasting impact on Bollywood and the Indian music industry.
