Sugam Pokharel, recognized as a key figure in Nepali pop music, emerged in the early 2000s, a time when the genre wasn't widely embraced. Born in Mangalbare, Morang, in 1979, Sugam's musical journey wasn't without setbacks. Despite initial struggles with early releases like "Ma Maya Garchu" and "Payera Timilai Yesto Khusi Chhu," his passion for music persisted. Alongside Sudin Pokharel, they aimed for success, but after their collaborations failed to make an impact, their partnership concluded with "Panchi."
However, Sugam's resilience prevailed. His determination led him to Kathmandu, where he eventually gained fame with his solo debut, "Mero Sansaar" (2001). This album became a bestseller, earning him acclaim, particularly among the youth, in a time when pop music wasn't widely popular in Nepal. Despite early setbacks, Sugam Pokharel's journey in Nepali pop music stands as a testament to his perseverance and eventual success.
