Rajesh Payal Rai (Nepali: राजेश पायल राई), born on September 30, 1975, is a prominent Nepalese singer and actor celebrated for his contributions to the Nepali music industry. With a prolific career, he has established himself as a renowned singer, having lent his voice to over 1500 Nepali movies as a playback singer. Additionally, he has released numerous private albums, including "Darshan Namaste," "Rai is King," "Kamana," "Jadau," "Just For You," "Murchana," "Baiguni Rahechau Mayale," "Nigah," "Asewaro," "Love Letter," "Syamuna," and more. Notably, he has even ventured into singing songs in Japanese, Assamese, and Bhojpuri languages.
Rajesh Payal Rai's musical talents have taken him on a worldwide tour, where he garnered recognition and received several music awards spanning from 1995 to 2015. He was also part of the historical environmental song "Melancholy," conceptualized, written, composed, and directed by Environmentalist Nipesh DHAKA, featuring 365 Nepali artists, which set a Guinness World Record.
In an unfortunate incident, Rajesh Rai was assaulted during a New Year's Eve stage performance in the United States, where he was put in an MMA-style chokehold by an intruder.
Furthermore, he is one of the coaches on "The Voice of Nepal," a popular singing competition show. Rajesh Payal Rai began his musical journey in 1992 when he came to Kathmandu after completing his high school education. His talent quickly earned him opportunities to record new songs and perform live on stage programs.
Rajesh Payal Rai's remarkable contribution to the Nepali film industry includes singing for over 500 Nepali movies, setting a new record. In addition to his modern and filmy style, he has explored folk singing with the release of his folk albums, "Jadau" and "Jadau-2."
Throughout his career, Rajesh has embarked on numerous international tours, performing in countries such as Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, the U.K., the USA, and Gulf countries, connecting with the Nepalese diaspora. He has also undertaken a nationwide tour in Nepal, performing in all 14 zones of the country.
