Regarded as a pioneering figure, Basnet has earned acclaim for his portrayal of Nepalese societal issues with a blend of realism, dark humor, and social commentary in his cinematic ventures.
His directorial journey commenced with the crime-thriller "Loot," a groundbreaking film that earned the status of a "cult classic." The movie not only became the highest-grossing Nepali film but also revitalized the landscape of Nepali cinema, setting new standards for storytelling and audience reception. Following this success, Basnet ventured into acting with "Uma" in 2013 and later directed the critically acclaimed and commercially successful dark comedy "Talakjung vs Tulke." This film, lauded by critics, was Nepal's submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 88th Academy Awards.
Basnet's directorial repertoire includes "Loot 2" (2017), further solidifying his status as a trailblazing filmmaker.
