Laxmi Prasad Devkota, born in 1909, was a prominent Nepali poet, playwright, novelist, and politician. He is revered in Nepali literature and is honored with the title of Mahakabi, which means "great poet." Devkota is celebrated as one of the most significant and famous literary figures in Nepal.

Some of his notable works include the best-selling "Muna Madan," as well as "Sulochana," "Kunjini," "Bhikhari," and "Shakuntala," among others. His literary contributions have left a lasting impact on Nepali literature and continue to be cherished by readers and scholars.

Tragically, Laxmi Prasad Devkota battled cancer and was a lifelong chain smoker. He passed away on 14 September 1959, at Pashupati Aryaghat, near the banks of the Bagmati River in the Pashupatinath Temple complex in Kathmandu. Prior to his death, Devkota faced financial difficulties as his income from the Nepal Academy of Literature and Art was terminated. This occurred because he had attended the Afro-Asian Writers' Conference in what is now Tashkent without obtaining prior permission. Despite his illness, he continued to be an outspoken and vibrant personality, expressing his admiration for well-known figures in Nepali literature, including Bhanubhakta Acharya, Lekhnath Paudyal, Pandit Hemraj, and Somnath Sigdel.

Devkota's legacy endures, and his works remain an integral part of Nepali literary heritage.
