Kunti Moktan is a renowned Nepali singer known for her versatility in singing classical, folk, and modern Nepali songs. She is particularly famous for her folk-pop songs like "Choli Ramro," "Nishthuri Mayalu," and "Mathi Mathi Sailungey Ma." Kunti often collaborates with her husband, Shila Bahadur Moktan, who is a musician and singer as well.
Her musical journey began at an early age, and she started singing while studying at St. Xavier's High School in Dilaram, India. Kunti passed the vocal test at All India Radio station in Kurseong when she was in Class 8. She recorded her first song with All India Radio at the age of 15 and her second song for Radio Nepal at 18 in 1980.
Kunti Moktan and her husband initially learned music from Jagdish Chandra Rai in Sonada. She moved to Kathmandu permanently with her husband in 1983.
Throughout her career, Kunti Moktan has performed in approximately 20 countries, including India, the United States, Japan, the UK, Hong Kong, Germany, Switzerland, and South Korea. Besides singing, she also plays the harmonium. Some of her most popular songs include "Khutta Tandai Gara," "Choli Ramro Palpali Dhakako," "Sunkai Bhau Chha," "Bhanchan Kohi Jindagi Yo," "Mathi Mathi Sailungey Ma," and "Dali Dali Ma."
