Kali Prasad Baskota, a renowned Nepali singer, musician, and lyricist, gained recognition as a judge in the initial three seasons of Nepal Idol. His musical journey commenced around 2007/8, crafting lyrics and compositions for various hits like "Chahana Sakiyo Bahana Sakiyo" by Sashi Rawal and "Laija Re" by Hemant Rana. His track "Saili" sung by Hemant Rana trended globally on YouTube, reaching 14th position after its release, setting a record with over 400,000 views within 24 hours.
His contributions in Nepali cinema include notable songs like "Jaalma," "Nira," "Lappan Chappan," "Panchi," and "Daiba Hey." Baskota debuted as a singer with the hit song "Jaalma" from the movie Resham Filili, a significant success in the Nepali film industry.
"Thamel Bazaar" from the movie Loot 2 stands among the most-watched Nepali songs on YouTube. His recent works encompass "Ajambari" performed alongside Melina Rai for the movie Gangster Blues and "Okhati" for the film Mr. Jholay featuring Dayahang Rai.
Despite his musical prowess, Baskota pursued a mechanical engineering career at the renowned Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology in Kathmandu for over a decade before transitioning to full-time music in 2015. His 2023 song "Chari Basyo" for the film Jaari further showcases his multifaceted musical talent.
