Harihar Sharma is a prominent figure in Nepali theatre and film. He serves as the vice-chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Music and Drama, a government institution dedicated to promoting music and drama in Nepal. Born in the Pyuthan District of Nepal, his educational journey took him from primary school in his hometown to secondary school in Assam. Upon completing high school, he returned to Nepal and continued his education at Amrit Science College, where he completed his intermediate level.
Harihar Sharma began his career as an actor at the Nepal Academy, eventually rising to the positions of director and administration head within the organization. His initial foray into acting was in a theater production titled "Aamako Pukar" in 1966. In 2024 BS (1967-1968), he made his debut in the world of feature films with "Sindoor."
One of his most iconic roles was portraying an elderly character in the film "Basudev" when he was just 24 years old. Over the years, he has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the arts, including the Order of Tri Shakti Patta and the Order of Gorkha Dakshina Bahu.
Harihar Sharma has also held various administrative roles in cultural and artistic institutions. He served as the director of the Cultural Department from 2053 BS to 2063 BS and later as the secretary of the Nepal Academy from 2064 to 2066 BS. In 2018, he was appointed as the vice-chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Music and Drama by the First Oli cabinet.
Outside of his professional life, Harihar Sharma is a family man, married to Sakuntala Gurung Sharma, and they have two sons. His contributions to Nepali theatre and film have left a lasting impact on the industry.
