Deep Shrestha (Nepali: दीप श्रेष्ठ) is a highly regarded Nepalese singer and musician known for his significant contributions to the music industry. He has had a long and illustrious career that spans several decades.

Deep Shrestha's musical journey can be traced back to the late 1960s when he formally began his musical career. This period is often considered the golden era of Nepali modern music. Prior to embarking on his formal music career, he participated in cultural programs and various local events in eastern Nepal, showcasing his musical talent.

His big break came when a Dharan theatre team arrived in Kathmandu to stage a drama at the Rastriya Nachghar, an event attended by the Late King Mahendra. Deep Shrestha played the role of a singer during this performance, captivating the audience with his melodious voice and well-composed music. King Mahendra was so impressed by his talent that he granted Shrestha the opportunity to record as many songs as he desired. This was a remarkable gesture of recognition and support for the young artist.

In 2025 (Bikram Sambat), a time when even established singers had to wait for extended periods to secure a recording session at Radio Nepal (the sole recording studio at the time), Deep Shrestha was allowed to record six songs. In the subsequent years, he visited Kathmandu once a year to continue recording. Notably, in 2030 B.S., he achieved a significant milestone by winning the first prize in vocals at the Nationwide Music Competition for his song "Bidhawako Sindoorko Rahar."

However, after another decade of musical activity, Deep Shrestha gradually reduced his involvement in singing. His professional commitments and personal circumstances led to a hiatus in his musical career, during which he did not feel compelled to record new songs.

As time passed, the Nepalese music industry underwent significant expansion and professionalization, embracing technological advancements. This evolution eventually drew Deep Shrestha back into the world of music, reigniting his passion for singing. His return marked a revival in his musical journey, and he once again started recording and sharing his remarkable talent with audiences.
