Dayahang Rai is a celebrated Nepalese actor, director, and playwright, known for his versatile performances and significant contributions to the Nepali entertainment industry. Born on April 13, 1980, in Khawa, Bhojpur District, Nepal, Dayahang's journey to stardom is a testament to his dedication and passion for the arts. From a young age, he was fascinated by the stories his mother told him, which sparked his interest in acting. He pursued his education at Pashupati Lower Secondary School and Annapurna Secondary School before moving to Kathmandu in 2001 to study journalism at Ratna Rajya Campus.
Dayahang's career began in theater, where he honed his acting skills and gained recognition for his performances. He co-founded Mandala Theatre, Nepal, with Rajan Khatiwada and Dhiren Raja (Limbu), which became a platform for many aspiring actors. His transition to the big screen was marked by his debut in the film "Anagarik" (2006). However, it was his role in the 2012 film "Loot" that catapulted him to fame. Since then, he has starred in numerous commercially successful films, including "Chhadke" (2013), "Kabaddi" (2013) and its sequels, "Talakjung vs Tulke" (2014), "White Sun" (2016), and "Jatrai Jatra" (2019).
Dayahang's exceptional performances have earned him several accolades, including three National Awards for Best Supporting Actor in 2009 for "Dasdhunga," Best Actor in 2015 for "Sambodhan," and Best Actor in 2016 for "Kabaddi Kabaddi." His films often explore themes of Nepali national identity, social and religious differences, and community connections.
